AI workloads are driving up the electricity and cooling demands of German data centers. At the same time, companies must comply with increasingly stringent sustainability targets. A real challenge.

The AI boom is changing the demands placed on digital infrastructure. For companies in Germany and neighboring countries, local data centers are moving from a niche segment to a core strategic option. And there are good reasons for this.

Cloud costs are rising; compliance is becoming more complex, and AI needs on-site computing power. SaaS providers in the DACH region wanting to remain competitive can hardly avoid local colocation infrastructure.

The German Federal Cabinet recently adopted the National Data Center Strategy. The goal: to at least double data center capacity by 2030 and to at least quadruple capacity for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
