Experienced technology and infrastructure expert joins from Huawei to strengthen technological and operational growth strategy

Munich, January 22, 2026 – Portus Data Centers (“Portus”), a rapidly growing provider of carrier-neutral colocation solutions in regional markets, has appointed Richard Pimper as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective January 1, 2026. In this dual role he will be responsible for the group’s overall technological strategy as well as key operational matters as Portus Data Centers continues to grow.

Richard Pimper joins Portus Data Centers from Huawei where he most recently served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Digital Power. In this role he was responsible for the strategic direction and innovation of digital energy solutions for data centers and critical infrastructure.

With over 25 years of experience in IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud strategies, Richard Pimper possesses extensive expertise at the intersection of technology, operations and economics. His work focuses particularly on scalable infrastructure models, cloud adoption and energy-efficient and sustainable operating approaches.

In his new role as COO and CTO Richard Pimper will drive the expansion and scaling of technical platforms, the further development of energy-efficient data center solutions and the operational integration of new locations. The goal is to sustainably strengthen the technical and organizational foundation for Portus’ buy-and-build strategy and enable further growth in Germany and neighboring markets.

“The demands placed on data centers are fundamentally changing as increasing performance requirements, new technologies such as AI and edge computing and the growing focus on energy efficiency and sustainable operating models are shaping the market,” says Richard Pimper. “Portus Data Centers combines regional proximity with highly networked infrastructure and a clear growth strategy. I look forward to contributing my experience and working with the team to further develop high-performance and responsible digital infrastructures.”

“With Richard Pimper, we are gaining a proven technology and operations expert with a deep understanding of data center, cloud and energy systems,” explains Falk Weinreich, Group CEO of Portus Data Centers. “His international experience and strategic focus on sustainable infrastructure will play a key role in Portus’ continued expansion.”

Portus Data Centers operates highly connected data centers at regional locations and pursues a clear buy-and-build strategy to meet the increasing demand for scalable, secure and energy-efficient IT infrastructure.
Under the expanded leadership of the management team Portus is planning targeted investments in regional capacity, such as the current expansion of the MUC2 edge data center in Kirchheim near Munich. The additional 5.5 MW of IT capacity will be available from the beginning of 2027, bringing the site’s total capacity to 7 MW.

In parallel, the company is developing a new facility with up to 12.8 MW of IT capacity on a new site within its highly connected campus in Hamburg. Portus has also significantly expanded its Luxembourg data center with an additional 1.0 MW of IT capacity. Further projects in Germany and neighboring markets are already in the planning stages.
